Martin was born and raised in Germany. His medical education took place in Germany (Freiburg) and the United States (Massachusetts, Oregon). He is a physician with over 30 years of experience in clinical practice (Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology), as well as significant experience in laboratory and clinical research. He has published numerous papers and has participated in multiple clinical trials involving infectious diseases, metabolic and liver disorders, diagnostic modalities and medical devices.

He then co-founded and became Senior Partner of North Shore Gastroenterology - a large, single specialty (gastroenterology) practice North of Boston where he provided specialized gastroenterology services for 16 years.

After leaving direct patient care in 2017, he has been involved in health-care consulting, investments and philanthropy as the President of the Manchester-Hahn Family LLC. He also serves on the Town Board of Health in his place of residence.

In the winter of 2020/2021, he and Bill Stone started Allclear Healthcare, projecting a need for rapid, affordable and more accurate testing for COVID-19, to help enable a return to in-person interactions and diminish the social impact of the pandemic.
